What is love? Merriam Webster says, “Love is a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties, such as maternal love for a child. Love is also an attraction based on sexual desire, which is being felt by lovers. Another thing is, love is an unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another, such as the fatherly concern of God for humankind, and/or a brotherly concern for others. Of course, love is a person’s adoration of God.” But the most adored meaning of love is stated like this:
(1 Corinthians 13:4-7)
“Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Why love? Why do I love? Why do we need love? The reason why love exists is we, the humankind, are seeking for understanding and care. I love because I care. I love because I understand the feeling being unloved. Without understanding and care, there is no love. If there is no love, then there is hate. If there is hate, then all of us suffer from pain. In that moment, I cannot handle to see that pain, how much more for the Person above us, who truly loves us. Even those people, who hate me, need love. Those relatives, friends, neighbors, and strangers, who hate me, need love the most. We need need love because it is happiness. Love is the happiness we feel when we are with someone we care.
How to love? How will I give love? Showing love is not that difficult; Unless darkness is empowering within self, then I guess it would be. I love whenever I hold someone’s hands. I love whenever I give hugs. I love whenever I give kisses - flying kisses will do, too. Most of all, I give love when I smile. Yes, smiling is showing love. Though faking a smile is somehow disturbing, but to show a fake smile for someone, who needs that certain smile, could means love. It is love, since the person, who’s receiving it, is dearest to you, so why hesitate? Show the love, though a sprinkle of it means a lot to someone. Give love, for it heals all sorrows.
To whom will I give love? There is no particular type of specie that a being must say, “I love this certain creation because he/she/it is like this or that.” No, there is no such thing as that. No age bracket, no specific gender, and neither the livings nor the dead could hinder someone to show and give love. Whether it’s an animal or a person, give love. Whether that person is old or young, give love. Whether that person is a male or a female, give love. Holding oneself to love something or someone hurts. It hurts a thousand folds back. We must love everything — every single thing exists in this vast world. For giving love is attaining eternal happiness. No one could give us that freely, but ourselves. We must not question what's written in the Bible because those words are sacred. All we must do is give love. That is enough.
