“I wonder what it feels like to be a mom.” Mia asked herself once more. While going through the mother-daughter photo album, she saw a photo of her mom gently carrying a baby in her arms. Her mom’s wide smile was lovely to look at, it’s as if she saw an angel and received the greatest blessing she could ever have. Turning the page, Mia saw another photo of her little self and her mom wearing the same night clothes. They look alike in all angles and no one would doubt about their relation. Mia remembered that one time when someone tapped her from the back and thought she was her mom because they also look the same even in back view. ‘Funny,’ she thought. Mia continue to flip the pages of the photo album, noticing how her mom captured those precious times while she was growing up.
“So that’s how I look when I was 10 months old.” Her mom took a lot of pictures of her, starting from the day she was born, to monthly birthdays, elementary days, high school activities, performances and until now that she already graduated in college and is officially a young adult. “Mom was always there for me.,” she whispered. Her eyes start to shed tears but she held it back. Amazed by what she’s seeing, Mia didn’t noticed that she’s already flipping the last page of the photo album.

Mia’s favourite photo came to view. A photo of her and her mom smiling like there’s no tomorrow. Mia’s wearing a white knee-length dress with make-up and hair fixed, holding a college diploma and a medal worn around her neck while her mom was hugging her so tight. Her mom’s eyes aren’t that visible due to the smile she made while the picture was being taken. That was her college graduation – the time she could be able to start giving back all the hard works her mom made for her during her academic life.
She remembered that day when she wanted to say: ‘Mom, thank you for giving birth to me and for taking care of me as best as you could. I’m going to fulfil your dream for me. Please be patient and continue supporting me in everything I do. I love you! Always.’ Mia couldn’t stop as her tears start to fall this time. Then, she heard a knock on her door. A knock so familiar, a memory starts to play in her head.
“Mom, please let me go out with my friends. I always say ‘No’ to them. May I come with them this time?” Mia asked. Her mom looked at her and said in a loud voice “No Mia! Wait until you grow a little older and I’ll allow you to make decisions for yourself. For now, it’s a No.” The moment Mia heard this, she screamed and rushed to her room. She banged the door behind her and ignored her mother’s knock on her door for days. Another memory played, this time in the middle of a mother-daughter war. “You don’t know the danger waiting for you there! Stop this nonsense and listen to me!” her mom shouted. “How would I listen when you never listen to me? You always say things based on what you’ve experienced. Mom! Your time is different from mine. The heck with generation gap!” Mia responded in an angry tone.
Mia heard another knock, waking her back in reality. “Mia?” her mom called out, “dinner’s ready! Come out there and let’s eat while the food’s still hot.” Mia wipe away her tears and smiled to herself “Coming mom!” While eating, Mia asked her mom out of the blue, “Mom why do you love me so much?” Her mom, whose mouth is open to take in food, put down her spoon and said, “Why not? You’re my daughter to start off. We prayed for you and God gave you to us. You may not understand some of the things I do, but always remember that I always think of what’s better for your sake. And if I’ll start stating all the reasons why, you’d be 40 by now.” Mia laughed at her mom. “Seriously mom. That’s a lot of reason you got there.” Then Mia stand up and hugged her mom. “Thank you Mom for loving me unconditionally. Despite our misunderstandings, you’re still here by my side. I love you Mom!” and her mom kissed her on the cheeks.
